U.S. singer Jimmy Buffett left hospital on Thursday, a day after he fell off a stage at the end of a Sydney concert and was knocked unconscious, Australian television reported.
Buffett departed St. Vincent's Hospital in inner Sydney via a back entrance to avoid the media after doctors gave him the all-clear on Thursday morning, Ten Network television reported.
Medical staff said the singer had suffered a head injury, but added he was in good spirits and lucky to have recovered so quickly from the fall at Hordern Pavilion on Wednesday night.
Witnesses attending his show described hearing a 'crack' as Buffett's head hit the floor following an encore performance of his song 'Lovely Cruise.'"

PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, Va. --
Dominion Virginia Power and NOVEC power crews are assessing storm damage this morning and working to restore power to thousands of customers who lost power during Wednesday's heavy snow.
As of about 10:30 a.m. Thursday, over 100,000 Dominion customers in Northern Virginia, including over 2,000 in Prince William County, were without power.
NOVEC was reporting 13,101 customers without power in Prince William County and 92 in Manassas Park Thursday morning.
Officials with both power companies said most outages were caused by trees and limbs falling on power lines during the storm.
Dominion said most customers would have their power restored by 6 p.m. tonight. NOVEC said the majority of their outages would be repaired by this evening, and a few hundred by tomorrow."

Will Ferrell and Steve Carell present the Achievement in Make-up award on stage during the Academy Awards in 2006. This spring, Ferrell will visit Carell's show, The Office.
As I mentioned in this morning's news roundup, we learned yesterday that Will Ferrell is scheduled for a multiple-episode arc later in this season of The Office.
My heart sank at this news — and I basically like Will Ferrell.
A little background: This is Steve Carell's last season on The Office as Michael Scott, a character who has been up, down, battered, noble, lonely and in love over the seven seasons of the show's run. It's going to be very difficult for it to carry on without him, but the producers are determined to try, and I'm still hoping Darryl (Craig Robinson) will be put in charge."

We heard the story of Chris Medina days before this American Idol hopeful appeared on the show last night.
But that didn't make his Milwaukee audition any less emotional, as Medina recounted the story of his fiancee, Juliana, who got into a horrific car accident in October 29 and remained in a coma for over a month before awakening with brain damage.
Soon after impressing the panel with his sheer vocal talent on 'Break Even,' Medina wheeled Juliana into the studio, where all three judges greeted her before announcing the news: her man was headed to Hollywood! Watch the heartwarming tale in its entirety now:"

We are used to American Idol pulling our heartstrings during the audition round, and in last night’s stop in Milwaukee (fittingly, the home of Danny Gokey), we got one that probably made you cry like a baby. Contestant Chris Medina has been with his fiancée for eight years, almost three of which they’ve been engaged. In October 2009, two months before their vows, she was in an accident and suffered a traumatic brain injury that left her in a coma for a month-and-a-half. Medina and her mother are now her caregivers"

We’ve Got Tonight: Love and Sex according the Bob Seger Manual
At the perfect pubescent age of 13, I discovered Bob Seger. My father bought his Greatest Hits CD and popped it in the car stereo on the way back home from a shopping trip. From the opening piano of “Roll Me Away” to the crying guitar of “Main Street” I was transfixed by a vision of masculinity that registered in my imagination and promised good things for my crotch. The bravado and toughness of Seger’s voice personified an earthy, earnest, and energized manhood that resisted the traps of tawdry machismo, but embraced the restless and liberated aimlessness of the male experience."

The editors of Health Magazine (and top nutrition scientists) have big news: Eating carbs is the best way to get and stay slim. Breakthrough research revealed in this book shows how certain carb-rich foods–especially those with the amazing natural ingredient called Resistant Starch–act as powerful metabolism boosters and appetite suppressants. Rather than making you fat and bloated, as decades of low-carb diet gurus claimed, CARBS make you thin. They shrink fat cells, especially in your belly; boost fat burning; increase muscle mass; curb cravings; keep you feeling full longer than other foods; control blood sugar, and lower cholesterol and triglycerides!"

Carb Lovers Diet on Rachael Ray - AmericanHealthAndBeauty.com: "This new diet plan encourages eating many of the carbohydrates you crave.
For years we've been told that we have to cut our carbohydrate consumption as much as possible in order to lose weight. We were also told that whatever carbs we do eat should be as close to natural as possible. So we gave up white rice in favor of brown and tried to ignore potatoes and crackers altogether. Now, a new diet book from Ellen Kunes and Frances Largeman-Roth, editors of Health magazine, suggests that eating more of a specific type of carbohydrate may be the key to a successful weight loss plan.
Kunes and Largeman-Roth talk to Rachael Ray today and explain that The Carb Lovers Diet encourages eating resistant starches (RS). These are difficult for the body to digest, enabling greater fat burn and helping you feel fuller on less calories. The basic guidelines of the diet are simple:"

New cookbooks can help with 2011 diet resolutions | Food | Kentucky.com: "■ The Skinny Carbs Diet (Rodale, $25.99) gives the OK to put carbohydrates back onto our plates. The book, by registered dietitian David Feder and the editors of Prevention magazine, introduces readers to resistant starch, or RS — so called because it resists breakdown in the upper digestive tract. Nutrition experts say RS, like fiber, has been shown to be effective in lowering cholesterol and high blood pressure, protecting against heart disease and colorectal cancer, controlling diabetes and improving digestion.
Resistant starch is particularly favored by the body as an optimal source of energy, satiety and glucose regulation. It occurs naturally in bananas, yams, oatmeal, rice, bread and beans. In addition, certain cooking methods can boost the amount of resistant starch in these foods.
Feder said RS can fuel weight loss by burning body fat and visceral fat (belly fat), and enhance the body's ability to metabolize nutrients. Because it helps you feel full, you tend to consume fewer calories at each meal."

Dr Atkins must be spinning in his grave. After years of demonisation by the diet police, bread — crust, crumb and optional thick layer of golden butter — is back.
Sales of bread are rising for the first time in 36 years: Tesco, Asda and the Co-op have each reported an overall increase of up to 10 per cent, while speciality bakeries are mushrooming, their shelves groaning with ever more inventive breads, studded with everything from chocolate to potato.
And this week nutritionists have declared that far from being a food to avoid, bread is positively beneficial. It’s full of essential nutrients, vitamins and minerals, especially if you opt for wholegrain varieties with added nuts, seeds or dried fruit. "
